Did yall hear about Verse today!

Yeah, me neither.

I am disappointed too.

Maybe in another 1-3 months ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You mean years… It’s been 3 years already.

Got excited about “very special announcements” and it’s beyond disappointment.

I’ll be thankful if they said not to wait.

Apologies for still being quiet about Verse. SkookumScript was developed for about 11 years before it was released to the public. Verse has a huge team and will beat that - but it isn’t out yet.

As Tim has said publicly - we expect to have an early drop of Verse sometime this year…

Verse , Is it possible to code runtime scripts like SK?

[I thought that I replied to this…]

What do you mean by “runtime”?

  • Will the code run in the game and not the editor (like the Python Unreal plugin)?
    Yes

  • Will you be able to make live changes while the game is running?
    Yes [At least during development.]

Well, that is the first tidbit I have seen, thanks! Glad to know that Verse will have some interactivity.

Is the Verse have a fully self-contained IDE (like the SK) with no dependencies on external software, such as Microsoft visual studio or JetBrains?

How fast will verse be? Will it be as fast as lua?

Verse has been seen running in VSCode

Verse will most likely have a faster implementation than lua considering verse is statically typed (from what I have seen). Also, verse is being made with games in mind, so it will be optimized for that.

Where have you seen the scripting language (verse) being used

no where, it is not released yet

The post was originally sorta ‘sarcastic post’ from when 5.0 was released or something back in april.

5.1 preview did launch today though and no mention of it.

My prediction is still Dec 6th, 2022. It’ll come with Creative 2.0 and new fortnite season.

Yeah and it could still come out for 5.1 since Verse is supposed to be a standalone language and integrated to Unreal in a form of a plugin. It’s a shame tho that there’s no official info yet, I hope we get some news in the Unreal Fest event.

Sadly Epic doesn’t typically publicaly announce things ahead of time too often. They usually just drop “It’s out now” kind of approach. Which is nice for not having missed deadlines, but sucks not knowing if its a day away or months away.

We are all getting more active lately, it is a sign that Verse is coming, or it is a sign that these messages keep pinging us… not sure.

Quick question, is the “early version” still expected to be released this year?
